An Unusual 2 Weeks

So usually I post this blog while sitting in Jessie’s coffee shop after a night at work. Today I’m sitting in my family room watching Ashlynn play her princess game I got her for the Wii. Yes, I’m turning my daughter into a gamer and I’m perfectly happy with that.

Usually I post this once a week and I usually follow my “Things I Think” format, but since I’m doing everything else different, why do that?

Since my last post, we’ve moved into the house, bought stuff at Target, unpacked a lot, bought stuff at Home Depot, had our first homeowner’s emergency, bought stuff at Target, took Ashlynn into urgent care, bought stuff at Home Depot, and generally just didn’t have a normal week.

Moving and such!

Moving in went pretty good. We used Neighbors Moving. The office staff got addresses and stuff mixed up, but the movers themselves were good. It took us almost 5 hours to move everything into the house, but it was worth it. I put up new blinds in the bedrooms and finished painting Ashlynn’s room. She helped me paint her door. We also got new doorknobs installed (Thanks Mary!). Unpacking is going faster than we thought it would, but there’s still more to do.

Potty Emergency!

Our first homeowner’s emergency was a clogged drain. The toilet in the basement was clogged, so I went to Target to get a plunger. When Corrine used the plunger, it pulled water up between the toilet and the floor. This was not what we expected. Thanks to the gal who sold the house, we have a home warranty, so we called them. Before the plumber called back, Corrine took a shower in the basement bathroom, because just the toilet was clogged right? Well it turns out we were wrong there too. All the water from her shower came up from under the toilet and water ended up going into our guest bedroom, soaking the carpet. We used our shop-vac (Thanks Dad!) to get the water out of the carpet and the plumber came the next morning. The plumber said it was just a simple clog that he cleared up in about 10-15 minutes. The home warranty ended up saving us about $43! Woohoo!

Oh The Pain!

Saturday night was the first night Ashlynn spent the night at Nana’s house. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very eventful night. Ashlynn woke up at about 5am and fell down because her right leg wouldn’t support her. In fact, she couldn’t move her leg at all! We took her to urgent care at Kaiser. Moving her at all was a VERY painful experience. Getting X-rays done was akin to medeival torture. At one point I think Ashlynn would’ve told us where Bin Laden was. Water-boarding would’ve been more humane.

After all the torture, they told us it was just a muscle strain and that it would be better by Sunday night or Monday morning. Ashlynn spent all day on the futon at our house. She was fine as long as she didn’t move. We had to carry her to the bathroom which was still a painful experience. We made another appointment for Monday.

When she woke up Monday morning, she could move her foot. We convinced her to try to move more and she limped herself to the bathroom before we went to Kaiser for a follow up appointment. They took some blood (yet another painful experience) and said they’d have a pediatric orthopedic specialist take a look at her soon. Due to yet another painful experience we let Ashlynn pick where to go for lunch. We had Subway from the food court in Southwest Plaza.

That brings us to today and the end of a hectic 2 weeks. I’m looking forward to a typical week starting…… now.

Thanks! Ashlynn is doing better. She’s not 100% so we have to try to keep her from trying to do too much.
