Irony in Iran – Students Day 2009

Today is Students Day in Iran. It marks the death of 3 student protesters by security forces 1953. The day is celebrated because it signifies the struggle against oppression. Well, the actual quote is that the day is celebrated because it “signifies the struggle against worldwide oppressions, perpetrated by the American usurpers and the blood of the students, spilled on this day”. So, according to Iranian authorities, oppression is only bad if it comes from us nasty Americans.

How is the Iranian government celebrating Students Day this year? By oppressing student protests over the corrupt re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June of this year. Yep, nothing says “Down with Oppression” like silencing your political opposition with violence and threats by security forces and militias!

I support the Green Movement of Iran. I hope for their success!

Here is a great in-depth post on why the Green Movement will succeed: http://www.irannewsnow.com/2009/12/why-the-green-movement-will-prevail/
