Colorado Tech Weekly #228: A Good Week to Get a New Job

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I just registered for my last course to complete my Computer Science degree (I graduate Spring of next year). My current job has me coming into work at 3am twice this week and I am participating in 2 job fairs, an online job fair through Regis University on Tuesday, then the Tech Job Tours event on Wednesday. I am well motivated to find my next job! I think finding my first software development job will be the hardest part of my new career.

Speaking of jobs, BuiltinColorado finds some tips for dressing for tech interviews (I prefer to suit-up), Denver Business Journal points out that startups may not be the job-creators some think they are (having employees is hard), some Colorado projects get featured in Popular Science (my favorite elementary school library check-out) and Pueblo is hosting a Mini Maker Faire (Yay! I didn’t forget the makers this week!)!

If you are also going to the Tech Job Tours event on Wednesday, let’s meet up. Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #200: Zayo and eBags Get New Leadership, Some Job Tips and a Twitch Stream

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

There is only one thing I’ve done consistently for 200 weeks in a row… and this is it!! I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for this long. I had these big ideas that when I got to number 200 I’d do some sort of meetup event or restart the podcast but those require much more social interaction than I’m capable of doing. Thank you for reading and sharing these posts. I really enjoy doing what I can to advertise the great people who make up the Colorado technology community.

Even though I won’t be doing a meetup or a podcast, I have decided to do a weekly Twitch stream. My plan is to do CodeEval challenges in Java and C#, then find a way to incorporate those challenges into a simple game using Unity3D. Why? Because I want to write more code and this is a good way to keep me honest. So if you’re so inclined, I’ll be on Twitch on Tuesday, from 4p-7p here: https://www.twitch.tv/chickenheed

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #141: The slow, steady hum of progress

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

At work we have this air conditioning unit that makes a low buzzing noise. The only time we really notice it is when it turns off or starts up otherwise it’s just a constant source of background noise we get used to.

The Colorado technology community is starting to feel that way to me and in the best way possible. I look ta these headlines this week and I see constant progress. Constant hiring, constant releases, constant adjustments. Just because the general growth in Colorado tech appears constant and fades into the background, just like the air conditioner, we shouldn’t take it for granted.
