Colorado Tech Weekly #276: Denver Startup Week is Just a Taste of the Colorado Tech/Startup Community

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

This week, most of the focus of the Colorado tech community will be on Denver Startup Week. My focus will also be on Denver Startup Week because I’m super excited to go for the first time. But the really cool thing? It was really easy for me to find at least 10 events to help you connect to the Colorado tech community this week that are NOT a part of Denver Startup Week because this kind of sense of community is not just a once-a-year thing. It happens every day here and that makes me proud to be here.

I finally got my ideal Denver Startup Week itinerary finished this weekend. I’ll be spending some time at the Basecamp Monday and Thursday, but for the most part you can find me in developer panels. This is especially true Tuesday where it looks like I’ll be in developer panels from 8am-6pm!! I think I might need a bigger notebook.

Another reason I didn’t include Denver Startup Week events in this post is because there’s already one easy-to-use place to get info about all of those events at DenverStartupWeek.org.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #245: Discover. Learn. Create. Repeat.

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning (Unless Monday was a holiday. I hope you had a great President’s Day)!

I’m almost 3 months into my career as a software developer. Every day I wonder what I would tell someone who wants to become a developer. I’ve decided the best way to describe the job of a developer is with the four words in the headline.

As a student, whether in a school or learning by ourselves, that process is guided by instructors or ourselves. In a work environment, what we discover and create is usually defined by our clients but the process is still the same.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #223: Never Stop Learning

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Working in tech means we never stop learning. Denver Startup Week looks like it’s going to have some amazing ways to continue learning. But it’s also important to keep the constant learning fun because constantly learning means constantly doing things that are new and uncomfortable is difficult.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #220: Developer Employment is Difficult

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Everything that has to do with employing software developers is difficult.

As a software developer with no paid experience, I have a hard time finding a job because I have no confidence in my abilities because I have no experience. Companies that want to hire entry-level developers have a hard time hiring us because they also have no confidence in our abilities because we have no experience.

Then we have the issue highlighted in the Denver Post article below where tech companies are trying to hire experienced developers at competitive salaries while still trying to stay competitive themselves.

If your job has anything to do with “developers” and “employment” I do not envy your job. Have a great week!
