Colorado Tech Weekly #222: It’s Important to Ask the Right Questions

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Everything that has to do with creating software requires asking the right questions. Every step of the software development life cycle requires good questions. Studying to learn how to write code requires asking the right questions which usually just lead to more questions.

I highlighted the Denver Data Science Day event because data science seems like an entire industry about asking the right questions and finding the best ways to get answers to those questions. It’s something that doesn’t sound too complex until you really dig into it. Then it becomes very complex.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #190: Go Code Colorado, C-Level at Mile High and Why It’s Good to #GiveFirst

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Wednesday is the Go Code Colorado Kick-Off event. I’ll be there! Say “Hi” if you can.

The Go Code Colorado event in 2015 was my first-ever “hackathon” and I got to be a part of a winning team of amazing people who I still love talking with when I get a chance. I put hackathon in quotes because the Go Code Colorado challenge is much more of an entrepreneurial challenge with code than it is a straight up hackathon. It’s still a great challenge that I love being a part of in anyway I can.

Speaking of events I enjoy being a part of, it’s that time of the year that I start promoting CTA’s C-Level @ A Mile High. It’s CTA’s yearly silent auction where you can bid for fun items and event packages, but the big draw is the silent auction for time with some of the top C-Level executives in the Colorado technology community.

I enjoy promoting Go Code Colorado and C-Level because when I first started looking into the Colorado tech community in 2013 these were some of the first organizations to be welcoming and inviting to someone who had no idea what he was doing.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #173: Developers As People

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I keep waiting for the week I mess up on my count of CTW posts, but Week #173 isn’t that time!

Every post I share is because I like it and/or I think it’s important news. It’s a pretty simple setup. This week I especially like 2 posts from BuiltinColorado by Jess Ryan that highlight Colorado software developers. The posts aren’t just about the tech or statistics about tech jobs, they show how to be as a developer. They’re awesome! it makes me wonder how I want to be as a developer.

Our companies and our community are nothing more than a collection of people. It sounds stupid simple when I say it out loud but it can be an easy thing to forget. Each of us affect our community not just with what we produce, but with how we be.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #161: Real Space, Fake Space, Real Bots, Chat Bots

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

This week there was cool news about real space with Lockheed Martin’s involvement with the Juno space probe. There is also some cool news about a space-themed game published by Serenity Forge.

The chat bot is thanks to BillHero in Ft. Collins so you can pay your bills using Facebook Messenger. And when it comes to real bots, I have finally started developing my first Sphero app. It’s a very simple app that allows you to drive the Sphero and see data from the Sphero sensors so you can figure out if you and your robot are thinking the same thing.

Have a great week! Be kind to each other.
