Colorado Tech Weekly #225: Python and Blockchains

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I have an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming from Westwood College, I’m almost done with my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Regis Univeristy and I have a huge passion for the Colorado tech community and I have never written Python or have any comfort in my knowledge about Blockchains (I understand them as a crowd-sourced linked-list of transactions about a thing. I hope this is right).

This week, there are 2 events about Blockchain and 2 events about Python and it seems like both subjects are coming up more and more so I should probably pay attention to them. I’ll be at the Boulder Python meetup next week. I should probably find a Blockchain meetup to go to soon.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #221: Diversity is Easy When You’re Inclusive

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning (Unless Monday was a holiday. I hope you had a great Labor Day!)!

When I hear anyone talk about why they enjoy being a part of the Colorado tech community, one of the first things they say is how inclusive it is here. I take pride in that.

I also just find the business world more fun to participate in when I can be inclusive and cooperative instead of exclusive and competitive. This is why I enjoy promoting the achievements of others, including those who may be competing with me for jobs. The business world, and especially the tech industry, is not a zero-sum game. There are more opportunities than ever!

Be inclusive and have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #208: Are We Putting The Driverless Cart Before the Horse?

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Like everyone else, I think the idea of autonomous vehicles is a fun idea and I am amazed at the advances made every day in the technologies needed to make driverless cars happen. However I think the biggest roadblocks to driverless cars are the roads themselves. The markings, signs and rules are made for human drivers. I wonder what a road system would really look like if they were designed for autonomous cars and not for people.

I feel like I’m just blathering again, but there is a story about driverless cars this week so at least I’m on some kind of point.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #178: If I Could Go To Every Event, I Would

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Tomorrow is the most important #TacoTuesday yet. Make sure you vote!

After last week’s Colorado Tech Weekly post had an article hinting at a CenturyLInk/Level 3 combo, it happened this week. That’s crazy. Speaking of crazy combos, check out FADC4. It is the fourth annual fighting-game event to collect food for families in need this Thanksgiving and it’s the first year I’ve heard of it so I’m happy to promote it.

I would go to all nine of the other top events listed this week too if I could. The APEX awards was the first industry event I volunteered for 2 years ago and I’ve been a fan of CTA ever since. Then there’s the Java meetup, cloud security, new web developers, experienced web developers, a school district STEAM event, etc. etc. In fact I had to narrow down 37 possible events down to just 10.

Part of me is thinking of a way to share all the events I consider each week. Maybe it could be a Patreon perk? That could be cool.

This week is a great big patriotic week considering we have Election Day and Veterans Day in the same week. Not to mention the 241st birthday of the Marine Corps. So go vote! Happy birthday and Semper Fi! And regardless of which branch you may have served in, thank you for your service.

Have a great week! It should be an interesting one!
