Colorado Tech Weekly #215: Another Week Where I Brag About Colorado

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I was born and raised in Colorado so I’m going to admit I am biased about this state. In the 215 weeks I’ve bragged about the Colorado tech community, I haven’t yet been proven wrong about the reasons I love bragging about the Colorado tech community. It’s open, encouraging, cooperative and successful. It’s great to see that view repeated by others in Colorado.

The other great thing is that the Colorado tech community really exists all over the state. It’s not just Denver or Boulder or just the Front Range. Check out the CTA’s Colorado Tech Tour events next week to see what is going on in the rest of the state.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #124: 3 Recaps, 2 Twitter-Related Headlines and 1 Set of Layoffs

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

4 out of the past 6 Colorado Tech Weekly’s have had headlines about tech companies laying off employees, but I have not heard a lot from the tech community about it.

I think it’s because A) the amazing growth seen this year in Colorado tech is bound for some leveling out, so it doesn’t seem as scary and B) there’s enough opportunities here that laid off employees aren’t without a job for long. I’m not all that satisfied with B. Regardless, I feel for those who have lost their jobs.

On a brighter note, check out the first 3 stories! As much as I like hearing what Colorado tech companies are doing, I love hearing directly from the developers in the industry I want to work in.

Happy Halloween!

Colorado Tech Weekly #94: All About Denver, Security and Maybe Even Google Fiber?

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

OK so maybe the Google Fiber excitement is a little premature, but I heard a baseless rumor that it’s going live next week in Boulder but only for people to Instragram pictures of organic food. If you have your own baseless Google Fiber rumor I’d love to hear it.

In my prediction post in December, I predicted that the Colorado’s information security industry would double! With this week’s news about ProtectWise and last week’s news about Webroot, I’m feeling pretty smart so far.

Colorado Tech Weekly #79: 10 Different Areas of Tech

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Sometimes I try to write headlines that summarize the 10 articles I feature. Most of the time, that’s really hard to do. This week is no different. Everything from video games to satellite surveillance, cloud computing to education and beyond. It’s amazing how many things technology touches and how much of that happens here in Colorado.

I just finished 2 courses at Regis. That doesn’t mean I stop learning now that class is over, I just get to choose what it is I learn. Trying to narrow it down is tough. Have a happy Monday!

Colorado Tech Weekly #74: Finding Inspiration

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I just finished listening to the latest episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Ruby Rogues. It’s a few Ruby programmers who spend most of their time talking about higher level concepts that ANY programmer of any language can appreciate. They had Kinsey Ann Durham, developer for Denver-based GoSpotCheck, as a guest and she talked about being a new developer and her path to that job. It’s inspiring to hear stories from developers like Kinsey. Give it a listen, get inspired and go to one of the events below!

For EVEN MOAR inspiration check out the stories of the CTA APEX awards and the TechStars “Where are they now” story.

Colorado Tech Weekly #70: The spirit of cooperation stays true

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

If you have spent any time in the business networking world (networking with people, not machines), you’ve seen dishonest enthusiasm. You’ve seen the mouth-only smiles, heard the distracted golf claps and felt the half-assed handshakes when announcing good news about your company. While I only have an outsider’s online view of the Colorado tech community right now, when I do see enthusiasm for other peoples’ news it appears to be genuine enthusiasm! It’s a great thing to see!
