Colorado Tech Weekly #258: When Turning Ideas into Tech, The Details Matter

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

This week’s headlines have me thinking about details. As a business-person or entrepreneur you are going to tell someone with some technical knowledge “I want to do a thing” and they are going to ask you “Yeah, but how?” which makes me want to ask: At which point is it best to answer the question “Yeah, but how?” At the project management level? UX level? When acquiring resources? When creating the programming?

When is it best to answer that question? Easy! It’s at every level! The more you’re willing to answer questions about the details, the better work you’ll get out of every step of your process.

On the other side, I don’t think it’s ever a bad idea as a developer, project manager, or anyone involved in the implementation process to ask “Yeah, but how?” It’s important for everyone involved to be on the same page.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #256: I Officially Graduate with My Computer Science Degree… and Other News

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

5 years ago I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a software developer and I sign up for my first 3 classes at Regis University. I took every class online while working more than full time as a police dispatcher. I sacrificed time with my family and friends and took classes year round doing homework whenever I could. I did homework at work, at home, while on vacation, in the early morning hours, late at night and all hours in between.

Today I went to the Regis University for the first time. The commencement ceremony was an excellent way to cap off my formal education. for me, my wife and my daughter because they also sacrificed a lot for me. It feels great to be so inspired and inspiring at the same time.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #240: Reflection, Direction and an Open Software Engineer Position

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary Flag Colorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning (Unless Monday was a holiday. I hope you had a great, and reflective, Martin Luther King Jr. Day!)!

This week has a good amount of both reflection and direction stories. I never thought too much about the relationship between the two until just now. In order to have good direction, it is important to reflect well on what has happened, where you are and where you intend to be.  I’m in a very good spot for this as I settle in after my first month at Infinicept and as I start my very last class to finish off my CS degree!

Speaking of Infinicept, we are hiring for a mid-senior level Software Engineer! Come work with me and my team! If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll help you out.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #234: Revolar lives up to their name, I start my first day and all the December tech events

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary Flag Colorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Last week I happily learned that “revolar” is Spanish for “to take flight again.” Luckily, since I started this blog I have seen very few good companies go away and I was honestly heartbroken to hear about Revolar closing their doors, so I am excited to share the news that they are back in business!

Speaking of exciting news, today is my first day of my new career! I have no idea what my work or my life will be like in the immediate future and I’m super excited about that. Wish me luck!

As always, I only listed 10 tech events, but it seems like the first week of December is when all the monthly tech groups are doing their meetings to get them out of the way before the holidays so if you’re looking for a tech meetup this month, it’s probably happening within the next 2 weeks. I’m tempted by the Misty Robotics hackathon. If you remember, Misty Robotics is the serious-robot spin-off from fun-toy-robot company, Sphero. I’m a big fan of them as well.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #211: Not Just The Front Range, Serious-er Robots, Denver Comic Con

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

This week is my occasional reminder to myself that the Colorado tech community is bigger than just those of us on the front range. It’s a nice thing to remember.  I’m very interested in Sphero’s split into Sphero and Misty Robotics. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of innovative serious robots they can come up with.

This weekend is my yearly creative re-charge also known as Denver Comic Con! I always look forward to talking with talented artists, authors and game developers at DCC! If you’re going, lemme know. I’d love to meet you.

Have a great week!
