Colorado Tech Weekly #278: Reflecting on Success and Creating More

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

We are constantly trying to create more success. It’s to the point that many of us measure success just as a measure of change. If you are just as successful today as you were last year, many people don’t see that as successful and that sucks!

We spend so much time trying to be better than we are now, we often forget to celebrate our current successes. Take some time and celebrate the history of yourself, your company and your community and have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #269: “Blockchain”, “Cybersecurity”, “Diversity” Are Not Just Buzzwords Here

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Buzzwords in technology can be annoying as they are exciting. They are annoying because they are often used as click-bait and by people who don’t understand the buzzwords but who really want to make some money off of them.

Looking at this week’s headlines, I’m proud to see that while our community is covered in buzzwords, these headlines are backed by people putting in real time, effort and money into turning their innovative ideas into success. That’s amazing!

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #262: Five Years Ago, This Week and #NewsMatters

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

It’s been 5 years and 2 days since the very first Colorado Tech Weekly. When I started, I didn’t think it was possible for me to find 10 news stories about Colorado Tech so I only had 5 stories. One of those first stories was that Sprint could have been a Colorado company with a merger with Dish Networks that fell through. Now I sift through about 80 articles every week to come up with 10 stories.

Last week I was also surprised by the news that Tamara Chuang was leaving the Denver Post. I have not had the pleasure to meet Tamara yet but she has only been the 2nd Denver Post technology reporter since I started this blog series. It made me realize how important it was to me to have good local reporting of local tech stories. I decided that if Tamara stayed in Colorado, I would do what I can to support that news source. Yesterday, the Colorado Sun was announced as a new journalistic project and new news source created by exiled Denver Post employees.

I look forward to supporting the Colorado Sun as well as doing more to support all the other great local journalism covering our tech community. Any time someone mistakes this blog for journalism, I kindly remind them that I only aggregate news reported by real journalists.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #237: Prediction Proven Correct and My 2018 Goals

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary Flag Colorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

The week between Christmas and New Years is often sparse when it comes to events. This week is no exception but there are 3 if you want to go check them out.

I was excited to see Tamara Chuang’s article about the Year of the Exit in Colorado tech. It gave me confidence that I really was correct about there being less tech companies in Colorado by the end of this year.

I said last week that I would make my predictions for next year but I have no idea. I always like the idea of the next big thing coming out of Colorado, but that’s hard to predict. Instead I have 2 goals for next year now that I have my dream job and because I will graduate this spring so I should have some more time:

  1. Pass on the main editorial tasks of Colorado Tech Weekly to another student who is passionate and excited to be more involved the Colorado Tech community.
  2. Become a regular member of at least one Colorado tech meetup.

Have a great week and a great rest of the year!
