Colorado Tech Weekly #188: CloudElements Grows, NewMedia Grew Too Fast and Tech-Related Politics

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning (Unless Monday is a holiday. I hope you had a great and thoughtful Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)!

This week we have some political news, but don’t worry it’s political news about technology in Colorado!

This week includes a state grant to improve rural internet access, Governor Hickenlooper talks about transportation and broadband while Colorado startups look to disrupt transportation while using broadband and (2 news items that are not listed below) Colorado’s U.S. Representative Jared Polis and U.S. Senator Cory Gardner have both proposed technology-related legislation. It’s important to look past the loud, headline-grabbing political stories and pay attention to what is being done in government that affects our industry. The more people we have involved in governing, the better governing we will get.

Have a great week!

Colorado Tech Weekly #154: CTA, BSW, Go Code Colorado and Influence

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I don’t know where to start this week!

Do I start with the Boulder Startup Week highlights from BuiltinColorado? Highlights that do not include Brad Feld in shiny gold shorts as the ring card holder for the Founder Fights? That was my highlight. Or do I start with the news about the Colorado Technology Association’s announcement of their new CEO, Andrea Young? Maybe I should start with being named a top 50 influential person in Colorado tech for the second year in a row? That’s pretty darn cool. Or I could start with being asked to cover the Go Code Colorado Final Event as a blogger? I was part of a winning team last year after all. It’s just all too much. I can’t decide.

This week I will be at ReadyTalk’s FoxDen Launch Party and at the Go Code Colorado Final Event, both of which are on Thursday so let me know if you’ll be there too. I’d love to say “Hi”.

Also if you’re looking for an influential, self-motivated, entry-level software developer, I am looking for a new job so get in touch!

Colorado Tech Weekly #119: Boulder, Leaves and Change

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

“The only constant is change” said someone who says things that other people repeat. This is CTW #119 and by pure coincidence I drove up Highway 119 yesterday to look at the changing leaves. I also drove through Boulder to come back home after driving through the mountains. It also appears that most of our tech news this week goes through Boulder.

Colorado Tech Weekly #92: TechHire, C-Level and great news for dev students

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Great news this week for people like me! Great news for people who want to become software developers in Colorado. I’m excited for the start of the new TechHire program here as well as Galvanize working towards accountability in immersive education options. The one thing that makes me nervous about dev boot camps is the lack of oversight. This is a great step in the right direction.

I’ll be volunteering at Sports Authority Field this Thursday for CTA’s C-Level @ Mile High event. I hope to see some of you there!

Colorado Tech Weekly #69: Expansion in Colorado Springs, finding things in Steamboat and Colorado has the best ‘Outside’ companies

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Would it surprise you to learn that over 1/10th of the companies listed on Outside’s ‘100 Best Places to Work’ were Colorado tech companies? It didn’t surprise me either, but it’s still nice to hear. It’s like when my wife tells me I’m awesome. It’s something I already know, but it’s nice to hear it from someone else.

A note about my news sources: Lately a lot of the stories I’ve found have come from CTA’s  news aggregation site Digital Colorado. Since they post a summary and a link to the original story I don’t often link directly to Digital Colorado because I don’t want you to have to click a link to click a link to read a story. That being said, If you want your tech news aggregated more often than once a week, you should definitely check them out!

Colorado Tech Weekly #54: $53.1M of funding, some rare bad news and the best network of IT women in the country

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I’m excited about the strong, growing network of IT women in Colorado. The National Center for Women & Information Technology is based in Boulder. CTA’s Women in Tech event was a big success. There is a GDI (Girl Develop It) Boulder chapter and a newly launched GDI Fort Collins chapter (but no GDI Denver chapter yet?). Things are looking good for my 10 year old daughter who wants to follow in, and improve upon, her father’s footsteps.
