Colorado Tech Weekly #95: GoCodeColorado and More Security News

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

I am so excited/nervous/apprehensive/scared/excited for the GoCodeColorado Apps Challenge Weekend this weekend. This will be the first time I say in public “I know how to code. Give me a problem to fix” and just typing that makes my imposter syndrome kick in. Then yesterday I saw who the five finals judges are and that kicked my excitement/nervousness into overdrive. Following tech news in Colorado for 95 weeks, these 5 people are definitely leaders in the Colorado tech community and it’s so awesome that they volunteer their time for this.

So I’ll be spending my entire week at my laptop getting homework done and trying to learn all the things to prepare for the weekend. Wish me luck!

Colorado Tech Weekly #85: New. Better. More. Bigger. Faster.

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Every week, things in Colorado are new, better, more, bigger and faster. It can be intimidating when you’re looking to get into the software development world. However instead of it being intimidating, I choose to think of it as a good sign. As long as the industry continues to grow and change, there’s room for new developers.

I may be saying these things more for myself than anyone else. Make this week better than last week! I may also be saying that more for myself than anyone else.

Colorado Tech Weekly #67: EdTech, bought companies and new ideas

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Last week was Denver Startup Week and it was a great reminder for me about two things. It’s great to be able to help other people and my list of 10 links to get you ready for Denver Startup Week post has had more views than I could have imagined. I love being able to help people and companies connect in Colorado. The other thing it reminded me of was that social networking over the interwebz is no substitute for in-person networking. I did not go to Denver Startup Week and I feel like I missed out on so much fun. Next year I’ll be there though.

Colorado Tech Weekly #64: Power of two

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning (Unless Monday is a holiday. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend)!

64 is a power of two. It’s amazing how powerful the number two is. Do you ever stop to think that everything we do with computers is all just ones and zeros? It blows my mind whenever I think about it.

I got to witness the power of two in a completely different way this weekend. I saw my best friend get married. It’s been a while since I’ve been to a wedding and it was a very moving thing to be a part of my best friend’s wedding. Congratulations Dan and Jen!

Colorado Tech Weekly #61: Success is a fickle beast

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

What is more important: Feeling like you’ve succeeded or feeling like you are working towards success? I’m too humble when I succeed, but knowing I am doing worthwhile things with my time makes me happy so I like working towards success better.

I wonder about this as a look through my headlines every week. I’m sure that getting funding feels like a great success because it means you are doing something worthwhile enough for someone to give you a few million dollars to keep going. Is getting purchased or acquired a success? I guess that depends on where you are in your company. If you’re a lower-level employee I would guess it’s a mixture of excitement, uncertainty, dread and pride. If you’ve experienced this, I’d love to hear from you.
